DAY ONE ITINERARY – SUMMIT THE PEAKS AND EXPLORE THE UNDERWORLD
You’ll begin the tour with heart-racing action straight out of our base camp as the first trail your tires hit will be to the summit Úlfarsfell Mountain. A panoramic view over Reykjavík awaits! From there you’ll get an overview of the vast territory you’ll soon conquer into the Reykjanes Peninsula before setting off to the trails that wind through the Blue Mountains. This mountain range painted with vibrant green moss offers views only accessible to ATVs and the bravest Vikings! Prepare to be awestruck as you immerse yourself in the wilderness far from civilization.
EXPLORE THE NETWORK OF LAVA CAVES
Your next adventure will bring you well below the Earth’s surface in a network of lava tubes in Leiðarendi Caves for a guided lava caving tour! More beauty awaits as you pass the remote Djúpavatn Lake tucked between the lava crusted peaks. Our final stop of the day will allow you to gain insight on how truly alive the volcanic island of Iceland is!
SEE AND FEEL ICELANDS GEOTHERMAL POWER
The Earth cracks and sizzles with mud pools and intensely hot geothermal pools at Krýsuvik Geothermal Area. We’ll make the final push to Hvergerði where a cold beer and a place to put your feet up awaits! We’ll call Hvergerði home for the night! We suggest you rest up as day one was just a warm up!
DAY TWO ITINERARY – BIGGER MOUNTAINS, BIGGER REWARDS
Rise and shine in the beautiful town of Hvergerði! We’ll start the day checking out some local hot springs, then head back towards the Blue Mountains region. The trails will wind and twist through the mountains with an storybook like feel that could really convince you that elves and trolls do really exist!
WITNESS THE ENERGY OF OUR VOLCANIC ISLAND AT WORK
In the distance, you’ll see steam rising from the Earth in great quantities which means we’re nearing our next stop, Hellisheiðarvirkjun Geothermal Plant. This is one of Iceland’s largest geothermal plants and the main source of energy for Reykjavík city.
THE NATURAL PLAYGROUND OF HENGILL AND THINGVELLIR
The trails will lead you Mosfellsbær Valley and through the Hengill Mountain region to arrive at Thingvellir National Park. Icelanders consider this the most beautiful and historically relevant place in Iceland. It is considered the birth place of Iceland with its stunning glacier capped mountains, glacial rivers and lakes. There is plenty to in this UNESCO World Heritage Site and we’ll make sure you delve into all that it offers!
A QUEST WELL CONQUERED, PUT YOUR FEET UP VIKINGS!
You’ll end the day and tour in the best way possible at Laugarvatn Fontana Spa for a cozy relax in the geothermal pools surrounded by peaks towering in the distance. Awesome right? We think so too!
